Cleaning the bathroom shower is probably not on anyone’s “most favorite chore” list. Some of us can get away with a once-a-week clean, while others may have to subject themselves to this daunting task more often. No matter how much we dislike it or how often we have to do it, it has to be done. The good news is, there’s one little trick you can do each day to help make your routine shower cleaning much easier. That little trick is to simply spray your shower at least once a day with a daily shower spray cleaner. By doing so, you’ll cut down the amount of time it takes to clean your shower on a weekly basis by at least half. Here’s a homemade daily shower spray cleaner for you to try.
What you’ll need:
24 oz. water
½ cup hydrogen peroxide
½ cup rubbing alcohol
2 tsp. Dawn dishwashing liquid (or whatever you prefer)
2 tsp. automatic dishwasher rinse such as JetDri
Mix it Up:
Step 1 – Pour water into a clean spray bottle.
Step 2 – Add hydrogen peroxide.
Step 3 – Add rubbing alcohol.
Step 4 – Add dishwashing liquid.
Step 5 – Add automatic dishwasher rinse.
Step 6 – Give a little shake to mix ingredients.
Prior to first use, your shower must be thoroughly cleaned. Once your shower has been thoroughly cleaned, use the homemade shower spray cleaner daily to help maintain your shower in between regular cleanings. Be sure to completely spray walls and the shower door and/or liner. It would be best to do this after the last person has showered for the evening.
If you try this, let me know how it works for you.

I have been using your shower recipe for weeks in the master bath while the kids finished a well known brand. Yours is by far the best ever!! I have now made a batch up for the kids and total difference. Black grime was building up UNDER the knob of the kids shower…where you can possibly get to clean. Just a few days of your spray and it has completely disappeared!! I will never go back to store bought sprays. Can't wait to try a few other recipes of yours!!
I researched a lot of daily shower spray recipes and liked yours the best. I'm trying it out this summer.
Love your blog!
desperate to get the tub clean, i used acid, a grade below sulfiric, hydric actually. it worked extremely well to remove all the dirt and the enamel. afterwards it took no time at all for it to get dirty, so a word of advice dont burn the enamel, very bad!
Will white vinegar work in place of the Jet Dri? I usually use part white vinegar to 2 parts water and a splash of the cheapest, NON bleach clothes detergent I can buy and spray that on. This solution is especially for my chrome and stainless steel kitchen sinks…. I use it when I am in a desperate hurry to make these things shine and look great when company is about to arrive and my house needs all the help it can get. Grin, ya know?
Pinky, you're adorable! I just happened on your site because I was fed up with my dishwasher not doing a good job!
So I found your dishwasher recipe and then this one for the shower. I'm trying them both soon.
What a bright and cheerful site you have!
Thanks again!
I will keep you posted
Hi, Pinky…..just stumbled upon your website -and I love it, I tell ya!! I'm already telling people about it. I do have a question, though, about this recipe. I made it today, but it's kind of strong smelling (I smell a lot of the alcohol). Can I put some tea tree oil in this mixture – I've been reading a lot of websites today (yours is by far my favorite!) and they're all talking about the tea tree EO.
Thanks!! Next, I'm going to mix up your soft scrub recipe (which I was wondering also, if I can just leave a container of some pre-made by the kitchen sink for end of night cleanup?)!
I love this stuff – 3 kids and no chemical smells? What's a girl to do?!!?
I must say about 2 weeks ago, I had no money and a dirty house. I found your website, and FELL IN LOVE. I have tried many of your recipes, and fell in love with them, so I plan to comment on each and every one of them, starting with this daily shower cleaner.
So I had all the supply's needed except the rubbing alcohol, so i doubled the peroxide. It works MIRACLES. I live in a 3 bed room 1 & 1/2 bath, which means 4 of us, share 1 shower, so you can imagine how dirty it gets in there.
I have been using this spray for 2 weeks now, and have not had to do a deep cleaning yet. There is no mildew or shower scum. Also instead of Dawn I used Ajax (Grapefruit scent – ONLY BECAUSE i love the grapefruit smell)
Thank you so much and I look forward to more recipes!! God Bless You!
