This past winter seemed to be one of the loooooongest winter’s ever. After having three back to back snow storms that dumped over a foot of snow each, it’s such a joy to finally see the trees bursting with green leaves, the baby rabbits coming out to explore their new world, and hearing the sounds of children laughing and playing without a care in the world. I just love it and can sit outside for hours enjoying the splendor of Mother Nature. The only thing that tends to ruin it for me is the darn bugs. I don’t care what kind of bug it is or whether it flies, walks, or crawls. I just want them away….very, very far away.
With the help of this homemade insect and bug repellant recipe, here’s to bug free summer days. Well, maybe not completely bug free, but it damn sure helps. Trust me. I use this one myself.
What You’ll Need:
1 garlic bulb, chopped
1 small onion, chopped
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
Hot water
1 tablespoon liquid dish detergent
Mix It Up:
Step 1 – Put chopped onion and garlic into a blender.
Step 2 – Add cayenne pepper.
Step 3 – Add 2 cups of hot water.
Step 4 – Blend ingredients together on high speed for about 30 seconds. Let it sit for at least one hour and blend again for about 30 seconds.
Step 5 – Pour mixture through a strainer into a large jar.
Step 6 – Discard the “mushy” mixture left in the strainer.
Step 7 – Using a funnel, pour the mixture into a 1 quart spray bottle and top off with a little more hot water.
Step 8 – Add liquid dish detergent and shake.
Use caution as you don’t want to get any of this in your eyes. Also, be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after making.
If you’ve tried this, please feel free to leave some feedback.

Where do you spray this concoction?
@comforting – I mainly spray around my doors and windows sills to keep the bugs out. Also, before I sit out on the balcony, I give it a good spraying. Other than outside bugs trying to get in, I don’t have a problem with pests, but if I did, I wouldn’t hesitate using it around the kitchen, bath, baseboards, etc.
